About the Author – Bettina Forget

Bettina Forget

Bettina is a gallery owner and visual artist hailing from Hamburg, Germany. She spent a few years trotting the globe, studying at Central St-Martins School of Art in London, England; Curtin University in Perth, Australia; and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore. But Montreal is her absolutely favorite city, and she chose to make it her home. In 2007 Bettina opened Visual Voice Art Gallery in the Belgo Building, and soon after launched The Belgo Report, an online magazine reviewing the many art exhibitions taking place in the building’s galleries. Bettina’s other ventures include Visual Voice Collections, a web-based art gallery aimed at budding art collectors, and Visual Voice Lab, which offers lectures, workshops, and exhibitions. Most recently Bettina launched Sproutive, together with a friend and marketing specialist, where Bettina acts as branding and creativity coach. And since Bettina loves to support Montreal’s cultural community she also serves on the board of the English Language Arts Network (ELAN) as Representative for Visual Arts and VP.

All this to say that Bettina has a very poor understanding of the words “a day off.” She regularly relies on her friends to intervene and drag her to various bars for Happy Hour. Left to her own devices Bettina roams Montreal’s galleries, theaters, and music venues in search of her next culture fix.

About this Blog

Bettina has been working on an art project for the last four years which is based on the first ever science fiction book: Somnium by Johannes Kepler, published in 1634. Now, 400 years later, Bettina traces the book’s story back to Iceland, researching and collecting materials for her current project, a sequel to Somnium (working title Duractous’ Journal). She is spending the month of June 2014 at an art residency at Listhùs in Òlafsfjörður, Iceland, and this blog is a collection of images, panoramas, sounds, videos, and thoughts she collects during her stay.
